How Salt Lamps work:
The more you leave your Himalayan Salt Lamp on, the greater air ionizing and purifying effect it will have. Once the Salt Lamp warms up, it provides maximum ionizing benefit. Salt lamps produce negative ions and salt crystal is “naturally hygroscopic”, absorbing water molecules from the air.
The most important benefit of negative ions is that they clear the air of airborne allergens such as pollen, mould spores, bacteria and viruses. ... Negative ions perform this function by attaching themselves to positively charged particles in large numbers and negatively charging those particles.
Lamps might exhibit “sweating” on the surface. Moisture is absorbed from the atmosphere by the salt and driven outwards by the heat of the bulb – a normal process that drives the air purification effect of the lamp. Note: Moisture from the lamp may mark the wooden or marble lamp base. This can be cleaned away. So, try and keep the lamp away from sources of excessive moisture or humidity (e.g. Cellars, unheated conservatories, bathrooms and near a shower for example).
What it may help: It's possible that using the dim light from a Himalayan salt lamp may help promote sleepiness toward the end of the day if you use it to replace bright electric lights.... Himalayan salt lamps are claimed to improve air quality that aid breathing, reduce anxiety, boost mood and help you sleep.
